This 4 inches French globe is a "Lebegue and Cie " as J. L & C for the smaller size, it was a School supply company at the turn of the 19th. century.The globe is plastered ball with 12 colored lithographed paper gores, political boundaries colored in outline, .There are some oxidation of the paper , some crack .Reference for dating : Free state of Congo (The Congo Free State was a private kingdom owned by Leopold II of Belgium between about 1877 and 1908), Antarctica is not yet explored , St Petersburg , that point to the early 1880's. The condition is good for a piece of this age , overall while it is not in pristine condition I believe it is a good value in term of historical content and decorative cachet .It has been professionally clean . The 4 inches size is inusual for this globe which comes mostly in a 8 and 12 inches size .
