This 13 inches French globe was published by Hachette by Vivien de Saint Martin a renowned geographer of the early 19th.Congo is not yet named free state of Congo ( 1877) and is mostly unexplored ( see picture), the river Congo is still not fully mapped , mention of the Nyam Nyams tribe , Alaska is present ( 1867) but marked as Aliaska , Dacota is not yet split in 2 states . Overall all of the countries are easy to read and to discern. The printing is really nice and well done , this type of globe belongs to the tradition of globe making of the 19th century . Twelve spindles of lithographed paper. Indication of sea currents. Blackened wooden base. Napoleon III period.
